The bait-rich waters of Cook Inlet provide intense action for both kings and halibut during the month of May.

Lynne's May 2004 Halibut

Shallow water, slow trolling is a pleasure to experience. Two ounces of lead and a premium cut plug bait are all that separates you from a line peeling, thumb burning, ocean bright king. These fish fight hard, taste great and are a welcome addition to any BBQ.

Heard the stories of deep water halibut fishing? Forget that. In May, we are talking light tackle fishing in 30-90 feet of water. It's easy on the back and fun for everyone.

So for uniquely Alaskan (did I mention tractor launches?),  fill-up-the-freezer kind of experience, take a break from the Peninsula crowds and fish the Inlet in May.

You'll be glad you did!

* This fishery is weather dependent so plan on booking a minimum of two days. I keep a boat in Kenai River-ready in the event of bad weather.

Limits: One King Salmon per day & Two Halibut per day.
